When it comes to the jobs of the future, alternative energy is big. According to the Smallbusiness.com, the number of solar panel installers and wind turbine service technicians will basically double by 2026.
They aren’t the best paying jobs, right now, however, with median salaries of $42,680 per year for solar installers and $54,370 for wind turbine techs in 2018. The best-paying jobs are in healthcare professions such as surgeons, anesthesiologists, obstetricians and psychiatrists.
For those professions that are both fast-growing and good-paying, it’s the sciences: Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, software developers and mathematicians all averaged more than $100,000 per year.
The statistics come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, which allows employers to look up statistics about hundreds of professions in two dozen different job categories. Visit the webpage here.
The alternative energy jobs are by far the fastest growing. The number of solar photovoltaic installers is expected to grow 105% between 2016 and 2026, while wind turbine service technicians will increase by 96% during the same period. The next fastest growing profession is home health aides, which is expected to grow by 47%.
