Horizon Blue Cross & Blue Shield of New Jersey has earned national recognition for its diversity and inclusion initiatives that aim to make its workforce and vendors as diverse at 3.7 million Horizon BCBS members the insurer serves.
“There are 155 languages spoken in the homes across New Jersey and health care is extremely personal,” said Peggy Coons, senior VP for Human Resources at Horizon BCBSNJ. “In a state with so much diversity, meeting the needs of our members and physicians requires that we have employees who understand those cultures and how they shape health needs and attitudes.”
Horizon BCBSNJ has instituted several programs and partnerships in order to optimize its diversity and inclusion practices. Its efforts were recognized this year by a number of different organizations, including Working Mother magazine, which named Horizon BCBSNJ one of the “Best Companies for Multicultural Women” for 2019.
In June, Horizon BCBSNJ was named to Diversity MBA magazine’s list of “50 Out Front Companies for Diversity Leadership” and DiversityInc magazine recently ranked Horizon BCBSNJ No. 3 in its “Top Eight Regional Companies” for diversity in 2019.
