There are a lot of things you could do in a 30 minute window: balance your checkbook, clean out your inbox, or even burn 200 calories exercising. Or, you could get that nagging legal business question answered through one of three NJBIA legal hotlines.
NJBIA has partnerships with two law firms: Jackson Lewis P.C. and Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. to operate three hotlines, each of which give every member with 30 minutes of legal help each month – that’s a total of 90 minutes a month on us.
How do they work?
As an NJBIA member, you can call one of three legal hotlines during business hours to be connected with an attorney. There is one hotline dedicated to employment issues (844-424-8197), another for business disputes (833-704-8207), and a third for business operations and transactions (833-704-8206).
You must have your NJBIA member number handy when calling, and, although you may have to leave a message, calls are typically returned within a business day. A 30-minute monthly consultation from each hotline is free to you as a member.
What types of issues can I discuss?
Each hotline specializes in different issues, so we’ll break it down below.
- Employment/HR Matters (844-424-8197) – Managed by Jackson Lewis P.C., this hotline gives general guidance on a broad spectrum of issues and problems that may arise from the employer-employee relationship like employee leave, overtime standards, and appealing an unemployment claim.
- Business Disputes (833-704-8207) – Managed by Sills Cummis & Gross P.C., this hotline gives general guidance on things like shareholder disputes, unfair competition, restrictive covenants, fraud and misrepresentation claims, intellectual property, and antitrust matters.
- Business Operations & Transactions (833-704-8206) Also managed by Sills Cummis & Gross P.C., this hotline gives general guidance on business law and contract-related matters affecting their daily activities, including contract negotiations and drafting, interactions with third party vendors, taxation-related matters, and new entity formation.
