Which Web Sites Provide the Best Information?

Healthcare costs and quality can vary enormously from hospital to hospital, physician to physician, and area to area.  Consumer-friendly comparative information can be difficult to find.  This Fast Fact is intended to steer NJBIA members to reliable sources of information.

 New Jersey Links 

New Jersey Hospital Association – The New Jersey Hospital Association is a nonprofit trade organization committed to delivering support & services to the state’s hospitals & other providers. NJHA’s membership includes nearly 400 hospitals, health systems and post-acute care providers.

New Jersey HMO Quality Report Card – To assess the quality of HMO plans available to New Jersey employers, review the HMO Quality Report Card by visiting their website or request a copy by calling 1-888-393-1062.

New Jersey Hospital Report Card – The hospital report card includes information on how well each hospital in New Jersey treats patients with heart attacks, pneumonia and heart failure using the recognized standard of care. You can create charts comparing hospital performance over the past three years.

Compare Quality Care in NJ Hospitals

Health Care Quality Assessment – The Health Care Quality Assessment collects data on the quality of health care services in New Jersey.

GetCoveredNJ – The GetCoveredNJ Shop and Compare Tool lets you compare health plans, costs, and estimate how much financial help you may qualify for before you apply.

Jersey Health  – Visit New Jersey Department of Health for an online listing of the wide range of consumer healthcare resources, including all state-run healthcare programs.

New Jersey Physician Profile Database  – Interested in more information about your physician? Then visit the Physician Profile Database, an online tool which allows consumers to get information about a physician or podiatrist.

New Jersey Association of Health Underwriters  – View useful information about employer-based health insurance in New Jersey.

Prescription Drug Network Price Registry – The New Jersey Prescription Drug Retail Price Registry contains the prices for the 150 most-frequently prescribed drugs.

Hospital Performance Reports – IPRO has updated performance reports on its healthcare quality improvement website, comparing hospital-recommended care delivery to the improvement strategies of that nation’s top-performing hospitals.

Informed Patient Institute – The Informed Patient Institute (IPI) is an independent nonprofit organization that provides credible online information about health care quality and patient safety for consumers. IPI rates the usefulness of online doctor, hospital, and nursing home report cards.

Hospital Safety Score  – The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade website allows visitors to search hospital scores for free and provides information on how the public can protect themselves and loved ones during a hospital stay.

Sharecare  – A health and wellness engagement platform that provides you with personalized resources to live your healthiest life.

Hospital Compare – Hospital Compare has information about the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals, including over 130 Veterans Administration (VA) medical centers, across the country. You can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care.
