Raritan Valley Community College in Somerset County is offering a program next month that aims to help local adults gain the literacy and English language skills they need to participate in workforce training and employment programs.

Coordinated by RVCC’s Workforce Training Center, the Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Program focuses on skills such as listening, speaking, and writing. Classes begin in October, with in-person placement testing and online classes via Zoom.

The goal of the program is to have non-English speaking adults obtain the skills necessary to receive training in in-demand, entry-level occupations, including food preparation and food serving-related fields, as well as the construction industry. Most entry-level jobs in these occupations are staffed by employees who have either a ServSafe Food Handler certificate to work in restaurants or an OSHA 10 card for entry-level construction workers.

For additional information about the free training for adults, including class dates and times and registration, text or call Bonnie Scharf at 908-253-6686, or email bonnie.scharf@raritanval.edu.

RVCC is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu.
