On this past weekend’s “Minding Your Business” on News 12+, New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association President and CEO Harry Lee discussed with Bob Considine the recent and significant testing achievements New Jersey Public Charter Schools are making in under-resourced communities.
“We have 20,000 public charter school students in Newark, 80% come from low-income backgrounds and, for the second year in a row, our charter students in Newark are outperforming the state average in reading,” Lee said.
“We have what many say is the top performing public education system in the country. And we know that there’s variation across districts, right? So more affluent communities are probably doing better than the less affluent communities. But Newark charters, where 80% of the students come from low-income backgrounds, are outperforming the number one public education system in the country.”
NJBIA’s “Minding Your Business” is a weekly TV show and the winner of seven Telly Awards over the past three years, including a gold 2024 Telly in the Interview & Talk Show category.
