The key role that international students and scholars have in incubating innovative technologies, establishing new businesses, and growing New Jersey’s economy will be the subject of an upcoming online event presented by the Garden State Policy Institute.
The institute, a joint initiative of NJBIA and the New Jersey Business Immigration Coalition, will present International Students and Scholars: Powerful Stimulus for a Dynamic Economy on Thursday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
National experts on international trade and immigration will share their insights, including Stuart Anderson, executive director, National Foundation for American Policy; and Miriam Feldblum, executive director, Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education & Immigration.
Representatives from New Jersey colleges and universities and business leaders will discuss how they are working to attract international students and the barriers that must be overcome. Speakers include:
- Gokhan Alkanat, assistant provost for International Education, Rowan University
- Amparo Codding, professor and international student advisor, Bergen Community College
- Elizabeth Gill, director of International Employment & Immigration, Montclair State University
- Katsumi Kishida, associate director of the Center for International Studies, Kean University. Kishida also chairs the New York and New Jersey region of NAFSA, the largest association serving international educators worldwide.
- Mike Regan, senior vice president of CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc., a global IT and business consulting firm that opened a New Brunswick office last year and works closely with New Jersey’s education institutions on mentorship and intern programs that support the innovation economy.
