Newark among East Coast’s Best Cities for Tech Talent
Total tech occupations grew 9.7 percent from 2013 to 2018 in Newark, New Jersey according to CBRE’s annual Scoring Tech Talent Report, which ranks 50 U.S. and Canadian markets according to their ability to attract and grow tech talent. The CBRE report ranks Newark as a top east coast market with more than 53,000 tech jobs, most in software development, computer programming and database system management.

NJEDA Unveils Opportunity Zone Challenge Program
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) launched the Opportunity Zone Challenge Program, a competitive grant program aimed at supporting community efforts to attract investments in Opportunity Zones. Grants awarded through the program will fund municipal and county-level financial and technical planning around Opportunity Zone economic development.

FLC Calling For State & Local Government Partnership Success Stories
The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) is accepting federal laboratory T2 partnership story submissions for an online publication of state and local government successes this year. Recognizing that federal lab and state and local government partnerships are critical to the nation’s economy, FLC will showcase the regional value that results from such partnerships. The stories will be published in the FLC Success Stories Gallery and promoted across different media channels.

Latest Apprenticeship Program is Fusion of Energy Research, Technical Know-How
According to RIO-NJ, “The state’s economy is changing, and jobs and apprenticeships are changing with it. Gov. Phil Murphy this week announced a new registered apprenticeship program to support electrical technician, electronic technician and mechanical technician occupations at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. The Governor’s Office said increased support for the jobs will further fusion energy research in the state as part of Murphy’s attempt to grow the New Jersey Apprenticeship Network.”

Montclair State Recipient of NSF Discovery Research PreK-12 Grant
Montclair, NJ – Montclair State University Department of Mathematical Sciences Assistant Professors Eileen Murray and Joseph DiNapoli will be leading a team of researchers on a project funded by a four-year $1.7 million National Science Foundation (NSF) Discovery Research PreK-12 (DRK-12) grant. Each year, the NSF awards a small number of DRK-12 grants to projects that have the potential to transform the education system.

Choose New Jersey Delegation & Rutgers University Sign MOU with Ireland Universities
Choose New Jersey continued their multi-city business attraction mission in Galway, Ireland today, the last destination of the trip. The delegation participated in a roundtable discussion with the Galway Chamber of Commerce. Later in the day, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT).
