Enrollment at U.S. colleges and universities continues to fall, despite an expected rebound from the pandemic this year.
According to a recent report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, there is a decline of 3.2% in undergraduate enrollment this fall – or 240,000 fewer students than last fall.
In the fall of 2020, there was a 3.4% drop in enrollment. If the preliminary numbers hold up for the scholastic year, it would be the largest two-year decrease in more than 50 years, according to the report.
