NJBIA Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer Alice Gens has been named an Executive of the Year by South Jersey Biz Magazine, which annually recognizes standout business leaders for their professional and personal accomplishments and volunteerism.
Gens is one of 21 leaders honored on the magazine’s 2022 Executives of the Year list, which also includes NJBIA member John Cimino, the chief strategy officer for T&M Associates. T&M Associates is a leading full-service national consulting, engineering, environmental, technical services and construction management firm headquartered in Middletown Township.
The magazine said it chose outstanding business leaders based on professional milestones, leadership philosophies, personal accomplishments, community volunteerism, the “humanity they bring to their roles, as well as some of most important insights they’re eager to share to help be the rising tide that raises all ships.”
Gens brings 25 years of both nonprofit and for-profit experience to her current role as COO/CFO at NJBIA. She serves on the board of directors of the Family Service Association of Bucks County, which provides many counseling, treatment and social service programs that assist over 40,000 Bucks County children and families in need each year.
Gens has also served as senior director of finance and administration for Soroptimist International of the Americas, a global volunteer organization based in Philadelphia that provides women and girls in 20 countries with access to education and training to achieve economic empowerment. During her career she has also been director of Finance & Operations for Newtown Friends School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, and a finance manager at AT&T.
Asked what advice she’d give to tomorrow’s executives, Gens said: “Seek out talent and provide opportunities for exposure and development. You should be supporting and encouraging the next set of leaders. Be comfortable enough in your own skin to let others share the limelight.”
