The Senate is scheduled to vote Thursday on legislation, opposed by NJBIA, which would allow Jersey City to impose a 1 percent employer payroll tax. The bill, S-2581, was approved by the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee on Monday and is listed on the Senate board list for action on June 7.
“This tax proposal would place an additional burden on businesses of all sizes and increase their cost of doing business,” NJBIA Vice President Andrew Musick said after Monday’s hearing. “Many companies have been courted by Jersey City and have made significant capital investments, including adding employees, due to the lower cost structure compared with New York City.”
