Recently NJBIA joined other representatives of the business community in a stakeholder meeting with Environmental Protection Commissioner Catherine McCabe and her senior staff. This is the second such meeting the Commissioner has held this year and she intends to hold these meetings quarterly moving forward.
The Commissioner discussed several rule stakeholder meetings her staff is currently holding, including ones on stormwater, public access, the Transportation Climate Initiative on motor fuels, and the stormwater utility surcharge guidance. NJBIA is participating in all of these meetings.
Ray Cantor, Vice President of Government Affairs at NJBIA, brought up several issues of concern to NJBIA members. They were:
- The high cost of NJPDES (water discharge) fees. The Commissioner directed her staff to send her a proposal before the end of the year;
- Concerns about the substance and process of the pending C-1 stream rule. The Commissioner promised that her staff would read our previously submitted comments and consider our concerns;
- An offer to assist the DEP in its efforts to reach out to members of the Environmental Justice community in order to break down communication barriers between residents in our urban areas and the businesses who operate in those neighborhoods. The Commissioner was appreciative of our offer and will confer with her staff on how best to move forward.
