On Wednesday, October 29, the Department of Environmental Protection invited stakeholders to attend an all-day stakeholder meeting in preparation of the Department’s efforts to propose regulations to implement the 2017 changes to the electronic waste (E-Waste) laws. Those laws place obligations on the manufacturers of certain electronic equipment (e.g. televisions, computers) to ensure that the equipment is recycled. It is illegal to place this equipment into the solid waste stream.
The stakeholder meeting, well attended by manufacturer representatives, recyclers, and local governments, addressed issues such as roles and responsibilities of those involved in the process, reporting and tracking, credits, compliance, penalties and fees, and certifications.
NJBIA has worked with our members on the previous iterations of the E-Waste legislation, as well as the implementing regulations, and will be actively involved in this process.
