The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) will mark its 40th anniversary this year with a gala honoring its former executive director, Arnie Wexler, a seminal figure in the treatment and recovery of problem gamblers and their families.
The gala will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., June 9 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.
Wexler, who led the nonprofit from 1986-1994, and has been involved in helping compulsive gamblers for more than 35 years and is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the subject. He has appeared on “Oprah,” “Nightline,” and “48 Hours” television shows, and provided training to Fortune 500 corporations, legislative bodies, colleges, and the National Football League.
As CCGNJ celebrates four decades of providing help to problem gamblers and raising awareness, decades, its services and programs have never been more needed. Online and sports betting in New Jersey has caused a dramatic increase in problem gambling. CCGNJ’s 800-GAMBLER Helpline has had a 57% increase between 2018, the first year of legalized sports betting, and 2022.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for both individuals and organizations that wish to support the gala and CCGNJ’s mission. This includes an ad book that gives supporters the opportunity to offer congratulations to the council and Mr. Wexler.
