Someone dies of heart disease every 34 seconds in the United States, making this often-preventable condition the nation’s leading cause of death.

On Thursday, NJBIA will be bringing together doctors, mental health specialists and experts in workplace benefits programs for a virtual event that will provide participants with meaningful insights into living a heart-healthy lifestyle and reducing stress.

Stress, Mental Health, and Well-being Solutions, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Feb. 27, kicks off NJBIA’s quarterly Mindful Business series, offering solutions related to stress, mental health, and wellness in the workplace. The workshop is free for NJBIA members and costs $30 for non-members.

Highlights of speakers and topics on Thursday include:

  • Charles Paraboschi, MD, a cardiologist with Capital Health Cardiology Specialists, will discuss how mental health and heart health are intricately linked, and how understanding this connection is key to overall well-being.
  • Shakira Monet Johnson, founder and chief impact officer of the social impact think and do tank Maple & Monroe, will explore the award-winning mental health initiative “Self-Care Sunday.” Her presentation will cover effective strategies for integrating self-care practices into an organization’s culture for a healthier and more engaged workforce.
  • Chris Barton, LCSW, will discuss how business leaders get better results by embracing employee wellness. Barton will share wisdom gained through her C-suite leadership experience in non-profit substance use and social services agencies, and as a leader in Horizon BCBSNJ’s behavioral health department.
  • Sunitha Moonthungal, MD, director of Primary Care Services at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, will explore how stress affects physical health.

NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka will provide welcoming remarks and Tim Harbison, CEO of Association Member Trust, will serve as the program’s emcee.
